History

The Academy of Dance, an independent tertiary institution, has been accredited by the Higher Education Authority on June 9, 2008 and entered into the court register on September 17, 2008. The study program Dance, Choreography (study courses: contemporary dance, social dance and competitive ballroom and Latin dance and Jazz) was accredited by the Higher Education Authority on December 18, 2009. The Academy was registered in the directory of tertiary institutions and programs on September 30, 2010. The study program Dance, Choreography was first conducted in 2010/2011. The change of the founder and the name of the Academy into Alma Mater Europaea Academy of Dance was entered into the court register on January 19, 2015. In 2015 an external assessment of the tertiary institution and the study program has been conducted and the Council of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (NAKVIS) extended the accreditation to Alma Mater Europaea Academy of Dance and the study program Dancer, Choreography for another seven years, until September 30, 2022.  This Council approved to add a new course, Ballet, to the study program Dance, Choreography. After three years of inactivity in the academic year 2016/2017, under the patronage of Alma Mater Europaea, a new generation of students was enrolled for contemporary dance and in the same year, we commenced with the study of ballet.

The vision

The vision of the Alma Mater Europaea Academy of Dance is to become the leading artistic academy in the region that considers its vision from a wide perspective in the sense of connecting diverse genres and interdisciplinary activities and placing dance art in the widest spheres of cultural and social life. The vision of the Academy of Dance is to become the leading artistic connecting institution that will offer its students knowledge that is becoming necessary in the fields of gerontology, physiotherapy, humanities and in that manner become a recognisable educational institution of the future both localy and internationally.

Mission

At the Academy of Dance, we ensure top-quality knowledge in the area of dance, pedagogy and the creative-choreographic process. With a wide range of diverse pedagogues and their rich artistic and creative experiences and leadership, we offer our students the highest possible interaction and participation with the best experts in their areas of expertise. In the future, we would like to develop a unique European tertiary study program where knowledge, experience, innovation and creativity are interwoven into the fields of dance pedagogy, culture and art. We wish to expand dance art and culture by improving the connection between education, research and culture, increase the flow of knowledge, research innovations and progress that are present in the creative dance scene. We wish to be a successful and desired partner in the area of dance pedagogy, teaching, dance creation and expression, both in Slovenia and internationally, and take care of sustainable development of the social environment.

Organisation

Pursuant to the Statute of the Alma Mater Europaea Academy of Dance, the following bodies operate within the organisation:

  • Dean
  • Director
  • Senate

The Senate of the Academy is the highest organisational body. The Senate has 7 members: 4 faculty lecturers and researchers, 1 student representative elected by the Student Board and 1 member of non-educational workers elected by the Secretariat of the Academy. The Dean of the Academy is appointed to the Senate by his/her position.

Academic Assembly 

The Academic Assembly of the Academy of Dance is comprised of all faculty members, scientific workers and researchers. Representatives of students of the Academy also participate in the work of the Assembly. At the beginning of every academic year, the Dean of the Academy informs the Student Council of the number of members of the Academic Assembly.

The Academic Assembly of the Academy elects members of the Senate of the Academy and their election is valid only if the majority of the members of the Academic Assembly of the Academy are present. The elections are conducted by secret ballot unless the Academic Assembly decides otherwise.

Management Board

The Management Board of the Academy has five members:

  • Three members of the founder
  • One faculty representative
  • One representative of other institution workers

Representatives of the founder are appointed by the founder; the faculty member is appointed into the Management Board from faculty members by the Senate of the Academy after the proposal of the Dean of the Academy and the representative of other workers is appointed by the director.

Student Council

The Student Council is a representative body of the students of the Academy of Dance. Each year, in the first half of October, the Student Council of the Academy pursuant to the decision of the Dean of the Academy, holds elections and informs the Dean of the election results. It must also inform the Dean of the elected members of the Student Council of the Academy and of other bodies of the Academy in which students hold positions by November 15 of the same year.

Habilitation process

Postopek za izvolitev se začne na osebno prošnjo kandidata. V predlogu oz. prošnji mora biti naveden naziv in predmetno področje, za katero si kandidat želi pridobiti naziv, priložene pa morajo biti vse potrebne listine in dokazila, ki izhajajo iz pravilnika, ki ureja področje izvolitve:

  • življenjepis,
  • bibliografija,
  • kopija zadnje diplomske listine,
  • dokazilo o znanju tujega jezika (ob prvi izvolitvi),
  • izpolnjen obrazec H01 (docxpdf),
  • drugo.
