AUDITIONS

The intention of the audition is to get to know the candidates, their technical skills and creative potentials that originate in personal involvement, clear goals, motivation and imagination.

SPECIFICS OF THE BALLET DEPARTMENT

Candidates must submit proof of a completed secondary ballet school or of an appropriate ballet education that is validated by the Admission Committee. The candidates do not have a practical dance/choreographic audition. The Admission Committee, on the basis of documentation and interviews, assesses the candidates’ psychophysical abilities and potential for the study of ballet. Enrolment is open to current and former dancers / pedagogues and choreographers, as well as to young ballet dancers who have just completed their secondary ballet education and wish to acquire an academic degree in ballet. Candidates who have finished / or only took classes at the Higher Ballet School of the Conservatory for Music in Ljubljana or some similar institution abroad can apply for formal or informal accreditation of prior learning. These applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Admission Committee in accordance with the policy for accreditation of prior learning and credits given for relevant experience and skills.

SPECIFICS OF THE CONTEMPORARY DANCE DEPARTMENT

The audition has three parts:

  • Group assessment
  • Individual assessment
  • Interview

The first part of the audition under the guidance of the lecturer concentrates on the following:

  • level of prior technical knowledge of ballet and contemporary dance techniques,
  • control of rhythm and musicality
  • imagination in improvisational structures
  • control of dance composition
  • expressiveness and endurance

The second part of the audition is intended for candidate presentation:

  • Each candidate prepares a 2- minute choreography and performs it to music
  • The candidate provides music for the performance, which he/she brings on one of the standard media (CD or USB stick in mp3 format). The candidate can bring his/her own player or tablet. The choreography can also be performed without music

The third part of the audition is a relaxed conversation with the Admission Committee:

  • The group and invidual assessments and the interview are conducted the same day. Our goal is to secure a positive and friendly atmosphere since we wish to get to know the candidate in his/her entirety and we want the candidates to be relaxed and enjoy the audition.

SPECIFICS OF THE HIP HOP DEPARTMENT

The audition has three parts:

  • Group assessment
  • Individual assessment
  • Interview

The first part of the audition under the guidance of the lecturer concentrates on the following:

  • control of rhythm and musicality
  • imagination in improvisational structures
  • control of dance composition
  • expressiveness and endurance

The second part of the audition is intended for candidate presentation:

  • Each candidate prepares a 2- minute choreography and performs it to music
  • The candidate provides music for the performance, which he/she brings on one of the standard media (CD or USB stick in mp3 format). The candidate can bring his/her own player or tablet. The choreography can also be performed without music

SPECIFICS OF THE COMPETITIVE BALLROOM AND LATIN DANCE, SOCIAL DANCE

The audition has three parts:

  • Group assessment
  • Individual assessment
  • Interview

The first part of the audition under the guidance of the lecturer concentrates on the following:

  • level of prior technical knowledge of latin-american and ballroom dancing
  • control of rhythm and musicality
  • speed and manner of learning the choreography and movement patterns
  • floorcraft and space
  • expressiveness
  • endurance and physical preparation

The second part of the audition is intended for candidate presentation:

  • Each candidate prepares a 2- minute choreography and performs it to music
  • The candidate provides music for the performance, which he/she brings on one of the standard media (CD or USB stick in mp3 format). The candidate can bring his/her own player or tablet. The choreography can also be performed without music

The audition has three parts:

  • Group assessment
  • Individual assessment
  • Interview

The first part of the audition under the guidance of the lecturer concentrates on the following:

  • level of prior technical knowledge of jazz dance technique,
  • control of rhythm and musicality,
  • imagination in improvisational structures,
  • control of dance composition,
  • expressiveness,
  • endurance and physical preparation.

The second part of the audition is intended for candidate presentation:

  • Each candidate prepares from 1:15 to 2 minutes long choreography and performs it to music.
  • The candidate provides music for the performance, which he/she brings on one of the standard media (CD or USB stick in mp3 format). The candidate can bring his/her own player or tablet. The choreography can also be performed without music.

The third part of the audition is a relaxed conversation with the Admission Committee:

  • The group and invidual assessments and the interview are conducted the same day. Our goal is to secure a positive and friendly atmosphere since we wish to get to know the candidate holistically. We want the candidates to be relaxed and to enjoy the audition.

International Students

In exceptional cases, it is possible to conduct the audition process by distance, based on a video recording, if the candidate due to some unsurpassable consequences cannot attend the audition in the defined time and location. The application for an audition by distance the candidate must send to the Dean of the Academy:

The candidate is informed in the shortest possible period whether the application has been approved and detailed information is sent to the candidate about the distance audition procedure.
