THE EXPRESSIVENESS OF THE ARTIST IN CONTEMPORARY MEDIA – DANCE

Project duration: 1 April 2020 – 31 August 2020

Project leader: Dr Matej Mertik

Funding: Student Innovative Projects for Social Benefit (ŠIPK). The programme is co-financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the European Union from the European Social Fund.

Short project description:

Due to the rapid rise of social media, the online promotion of art has become more important than ever. Although presenting artistic work online may at first seem complex or time-consuming, especially in traditional arts such as dance, technological development has turned it into a creative and engaging process.

Within the project, students and mentors became familiar with selected procedures, tools, and methods for artistic expression in contemporary media. They explored the creation of online portfolios for presenting their work and artistic expression, which requires both methodological knowledge and digital skills. Students developed competences in presenting their work, style, artistic expression, performances, and choreographies; creating and managing a blog; understanding the importance of regular online publishing; using social media platforms; and publishing content on dedicated websites aimed at audiences interested in dance.

At the same time, participants were introduced to the figural representation of the human body and selected aspects of physiotherapy in the practice of dance art.

Activities:

  • Introduction to digital media and technology tools for artistic creation
  • Workshops on working in the media space and project work, in cooperation with the Veter Association
  • Analysis of the programme’s impact and transfer of knowledge to other students and lecturers of Alma Mater Europaea – Dance Academy through a seminar and written contribution

Results:

  • A selection of lectures on basic digital literacy skills for the study of dance and choreography
  • A selection of tools for promotional activities and practical guides for their use, including portfolios, blogs, social networks, YouTube, and basic work with media content
  • Selected physiotherapy content for dancers
  • Practical work in a real environment through project-based and media-related activities
