Study excursion of Dance Academy students to the KRAFFT festival 2021
In June 2021 we took part in the professional programme of the KRAFFT festival in Kranj, where we watched screenings of dance films — among them films by our own students — and joined a discussion entitled “ENCOUNTERS: THE BODY IN THE LENS” Dance films through the body of the choreographer and the lens of the director, in which we opened up themes and addressed the many questions surrounding the position of dance artists within the audiovisual medium:
- What is the role of the choreographer in a dance film?
- How is the director–choreographer relationship established, built and shaped?
- Whose is the autonomy of decision that shapes the story, the execution and the message of the choreography in an audiovisual work?
- How, when and why do differences, disagreements and compromises arise between choreographer and director?
- How do dance artists in audiovisual works deal with working conditions on set?
- How can a good dance film be made without the money it requires?
We met recognised experts in dance and feature film: Peter Bratuša, Rok Kunaver, Gaj Žmavc, Jasna Hribernik and Matjaž Mrak. The guests also included professors of the Dance Academy: Rosana Hribar, Urša Rupnik, Maša Kagao Knez and Željko Božič. The professional programme was followed by a pleasant get-together in the fine setting of Layer House — the artists’ house in Kranj.
