Auditions
Auditions can be taken ONLINE or in person on site. On-site auditions take place at Centre Premik (Hall A), Neubergerjeva 9, 1000 Ljubljana. An aptitude test / audition is not required for the Master’s programme Studies in Dance Arts.
There is no audition for the Ballet programme — candidates only attend an interview with the committee. Details are in the Ballet programme section.

How the audition works
The audition is designed to get to know the candidate, their technical skills and creative potential — rooted in personal commitment, clear goals, motivation and imagination.
An aptitude test / audition is not required for the Master’s programme Studies in Dance Arts.
Specifics of the Ballet programme
Candidates must submit proof of successfully completed ballet high school or appropriate ballet education, on which the Committee decides. At admission, candidates do not perform a practical dance/choreography part of the examination. The Committee will assess psychophysical abilities and potential for ballet studies based on submitted documentation and an interview.
Enrolment is open to current and former dancers/pedagogues and choreographers, as well as to young people after completing ballet school who wish to obtain a higher-education degree in ballet. Candidates who completed or attended the Higher Ballet School at the Ljubljana Conservatoire of Music and Ballet — or a comparable institution abroad — may be granted credit for specific examinations on the basis of an application for recognition of formal and non-formal education, by decision of the Study Committee, which compares study programmes and evidence of acquired knowledge and competences.
Specifics of the Contemporary Dance programme
The aptitude test consists of three parts:
- Group test
- Individual test
- Interview
Part one, led by a lecturer, focuses on:
- level of technical foundation in ballet and contemporary-dance techniques,
- command of rhythm and musicality,
- resourcefulness in improvised structures,
- command of dance composition,
- expressiveness,
- stamina.
Part two is for the candidate’s self-presentation:
- The candidate prepares a roughly 2-minute choreography performed to a music track.
- The candidate brings their own music on a standard medium (USB stick, mp3 file, tablet). The choreography may also be performed without music.
Part three is a relaxed conversation with the expert panel. The group test, individual test and interview all take place on the first day. Our aim is a positive, friendly atmosphere — we want to get to know the candidate fully, so please feel relaxed and enjoy the presentation.
Required documents: CV or artistic portfolio.
Specifics of the Urban / Hip Hop programme
The aptitude test consists of three parts:
- Group test
- Individual test
- Interview
Part one, led by a lecturer, focuses on:
- level of technical foundation in Hip Hop,
- command of rhythm and musicality,
- resourcefulness in improvised structures,
- command of dance composition,
- expressiveness,
- stamina.
Part two is for the candidate’s self-presentation:
- The candidate prepares a roughly 2-minute choreography performed to a music track.
- The candidate brings their own music on a standard medium (USB stick, mp3 file, tablet). The choreography may also be performed without music.

- Interview
Part one, led by a lecturer, focuses on:
- level of technical foundation in jazz,
- command of rhythm and musicality,
- resourcefulness in improvised structures,
- command of dance composition,
- expressiveness,
- stamina and physical fitness.
Part two is for the candidate’s self-presentation:
- The candidate prepares a choreography 1:15–2 minutes long, performed to a music track.
- The candidate brings their own music on a standard medium (USB stick, mp3 file, tablet). The choreography may also be performed without music.
Part three is a relaxed conversation with the expert panel. The group test, individual test and interview all take place on the first day. Our aim is a positive, friendly atmosphere — we want to get to know the candidate fully, so please feel relaxed and enjoy the presentation.

Remote audition
In exceptional cases an audition can be held remotely, by video recording, where the candidate cannot attend the on-site audition for unavoidable reasons. Requests for a remote audition should be addressed to the academy leadership: svebor.secak@almamater.si.
We will respond as soon as possible and, if the request is approved, send precise details of the remote-audition procedure.
