Mobility for students
A semester of study at a partner academy or a traineeship abroad — with an Erasmus+ grant. Here you will find the conditions, the deadlines, the grant amounts and the application procedure, step by step.
What Erasmus+ offers
Erasmus+ opens doors: you complete part of your study obligations at a partner institution abroad, or you go on a traineeship, and you receive a grant while you do so. The programme is funded by the European Commission, and the Dance Academy holds the Erasmus Charter for the period 2021–2027.
An exchange is more than studying abroad. You deepen your skills and your language, you get to know a different school of dance, a different culture and new people, you widen your professional network and you improve your employment prospects. And because the programme comes with financial support, the opportunity is open to everyone.

The types of mobility available to students under Erasmus+.
At each level of study you may spend a total of up to 12 months abroad. You may make up that period from any combination of study and traineeship, although the length of an individual mobility also depends on the funds available.
Doctoral students may opt either for long-term mobility (2–12 months) or for short-term mobility (5–30 days). On short-term mobility they are not required to complete a virtual component or to earn 3 ECTS.
Where can you go? To the member states of the European Union and to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Türkiye, North Macedonia and Serbia. Mobility to other countries is possible by way of exception or by prior arrangement.
For a study exchange you choose from the institutions with which the academy has a signed agreement — you will find them on the Partner institutions page. No agreement is needed for a traineeship: as a rule you find the company or organisation yourself.
The call and the grants
The call for the co-funding of student mobility is published by Alma Mater Europaea University. It sets out the application deadlines, the eligibility conditions and the grant amounts.
Application deadlines: the call is open until the available funds are exhausted. The deadline for an individual academic year is published by the University in the call; the current deadline is also available from the International Office.
The grant is non-repayable and is intended to cover travel and living costs during your study or traineeship abroad. The Erasmus+ grant contributes towards the cost of your stay abroad and as a rule does not cover it in full.

- Additional support for students with special needs — by arrangement with the International Office.
Green travel means a journey for which you use a lower-emission means of transport for the greater part of the distance: train, coach or car sharing.
The host institution or company may not charge a visiting student for tuition, registration, examinations, access to the library or the use of laboratories. It may charge only small amounts for basic or compulsory insurance, membership of the student union and consumables.
Applying step by step
There are six steps between reading the call and setting off. The International Office is on hand at every one of them.
Read the call
The call sets out all the deadlines, the eligibility conditions and the grant amounts. Read it before you decide which type of mobility to go for.
Choose the type of mobility
For a study exchange you select one of the partner institutions and check its admission requirements on its own website. For a traineeship you choose the country and, as a rule, find the company, centre or institution yourself.
Selection of candidates
The committee assesses the applications in writing against the criteria below and informs candidates of the outcome. Where necessary, it subsequently verifies the candidate’s knowledge of the foreign language.
Confirmation by the host
The International Office contacts the coordinator at the chosen host institution or company and requests official confirmation of acceptance.
Preparing the documentation
Next come the Learning Agreement (or the Traineeship Agreement), the signing of the grant agreement, the Online Linguistic Support (OLS) language assessment, and arrangements for insurance, travel, accommodation and, where required, a visa.
For a study exchange, you compare the courses you intend to take abroad with the courses you would otherwise take at the academy. The draft comparison is approved by the head of the study programme, who also determines what will be recognised on your return. In one semester you are normally expected to earn around 20 ECTS, or as many credits as the head of programme considers appropriate.
For a traineeship, you send the International Office confirmation that the host is willing to accept you. If you cannot find a suitable company on your own, the International Office or the head of the study programme will help you with the search.
Traineeship vacancies can also be found on the ErasmusIntern, Euractiv Jobsite, garagErasmus, UNESCO, IFAD, UNIDO and Praxis portals, as well as in the directory of United Nations system organisations.
During your mobility you report any changes (to your choice of courses, for example) to the International Office. On your return you have one month to submit the Transcript of Records or the completed traineeship agreement, the confirmation of the duration of your mobility, a report on your experience and the completed online questionnaire. Your request for the recognition of study obligations is then considered by the Academic Affairs Committee.
Eligibility and selection criteria
Any student who meets the conditions below may apply. Where there are more applications than places available, the committee applies further criteria.
- You hold student status at the time of application.
- At the same level of study you do not exceed 12 months of total mobility (study and traineeship) under the Erasmus+ programme.
- The study or traineeship abroad forms part of the study programme you are enrolled in and contributes to your academic and personal development.
- You meet any requirements as to study and knowledge of the foreign language set by the partner institution or company.
For a study exchange, students of undergraduate programmes may apply from their second year onwards, while students of graduate programmes may apply as early as their first year. A traineeship may be undertaken in any year and at any level of study; recent graduates (master’s and doctoral) may also undertake one within 12 months of graduating, but they must submit their application while still enrolled at Alma Mater.
Criterion 1: Letter of motivation — 0 to 20 points
- 20 points — the letter is clear and grammatically correct, the reasons for the exchange are stated and substantiated, and the letter shows motivation.
- 10 points — the letter is short or contains grammatical errors, the reasons for the exchange are given only superficially or not at all, and motivation is not apparent.
- 0 points — no letter submitted.
Criterion 2: Application form — 0 to 10 points
- 10 points — the form is fully completed: comparison of courses, known mobility dates and a known institution.
- 5 points — partially completed: inadequate comparison of courses, approximate dates, institution not known.
- 0 points — not completed or inadequate: courses, dates or institution are not given.
Criterion 3: Priority for candidates with no previous exchange experience — −5 to 5 points
- 5 points — the student has not been on an exchange before.
- 0 points — the student has already been on an exchange.
- −5 points — the student was selected under a previous call but did not go on the exchange.
By submitting your application you undertake to find — within three months, either on your own or together with the International Office — an organisation at which the exchange will take place, and to conclude a tripartite agreement with it. Failing that, Alma Mater reserves the right to award the place to the next candidate in line.
