Alma Mater Europaea, the international university based in Maribor, presented a dance production by dancers and musical guests whose witty, varied and energetic choreographies delighted the audience.
“These are choreographies created over the academic year. They came together into a wonderful collage of the creative force of different generations and artistic fields,” said Dr Barbara Toplak, Secretary General of AMEU, in her opening remarks. The students, who come to the Dance Academy from as many as eight countries, were joined by musical guests who enriched the evening further: Kristijan Korat on piano, and Maša Tiselj and Gašper Oblak as musical theatre actors.
“Movement touches on technique, magic and discipline as much as on intuition. And more: as much content as form — that is the saying of Pino Mlakar that we students and lecturers follow every year,” emphasised Rosana Hribar, head of the Department of Contemporary Dance, who has now prepared the event on Kongresni trg for the third time. Their thoughts are already turning to the auditions and to preparing the programme for the coming academic year; the auditions will be held at Center Premik in Ljubljana on 7 and 21 September.
