Gala Dance Evening of Alma Mater Europaea – Dance Academy
“Why can we not say everything in words?”

Movement, says Pino Mlakar, involves as much technique as magic, as much discipline as intuition and more besides, as much content as form. It is a motto that the students and lecturers of AMEU – Dance Academy follow through dedicated, hard work year after year. This year’s Gala Dance Evening will again be full of dance and musical guests, delighting audiences with witty, musically varied and energetic choreographies created over the whole academic year and shaped, at its close, into a collage of the shared creative force of different generations and artistic fields.
And why can we not say everything in words? Because a word is for the most part unambiguous and single-meaning, while the body is a space of paradox, of duality and of being; and so, as Pino writes, its main tendency must arise from feeling its way: “how to shape one’s own impulse to move into a perceptible, lasting interest”.
