The dance video is an independent work by Dance Academy students, created within the course Composition and the Creative Research Process. Following the mentor’s instructions and assignments, they had to create a choreographic miniature forming a complete whole in both content and execution. They had to make sure the choreography was clear in its narration, that it expressed a mutual dialogue as well as their own personal expression and character, that it was compositionally coherent and balanced, and that it respected the given musical genre. The music was provided by the excellent Slovenian collective Bast, with ritual elements, and by the well-known violin concerto of J. S. Bach — a challenge in which the students explored how tradition connects with contemporary dance. For the dance video the choreography was slightly adapted and, together with director Matjaž Mrak, given a spatial reading: it was set in Plesni teater Ljubljana and complemented by the beautiful surroundings of the city of Ljubljana.
