Final production of the AMEU Dance Academy 2019/2020

Production 2019/2020

The closing evening of the first, second and third years of the Dance Academy, contemporary dance, 2019/2020, took place as part of the Ukrep Festival 2020 on Sunday, 14 June 2020 at 20:00.

As part of the U[krep] 2020 – Festival of Dance Perspectives / “New Reality”, our students presented a closing action in two parts:

The opening programme began at 20:00 in front of Plesni teater Ljubljana and continued on to Špica Park by the Ljubljanica, where the Dance Academy students took over.

Through a dance journey, various dance and spatial interventions in the open air led festival visitors from Špica Park by the Ljubljanica to Plesni teater Ljubljana.

Later in the evening, in front of Plesni teater Ljubljana (in the Prulček bar), they presented a screening of short dance films created in collaboration with the Creative School of Dance Film and Plesni teater Ljubljana.

Urška Centa: SOLEDAD / SOLITUDE

Soledad / Solitude is an apparition of the social changes the near future announces. Not knowing what we will wake up to tomorrow is a foreboding of looming phantoms in which we can, again and again, mutely observe the play of history’s cyclical nature. And so we dance, we proclaim, we awaken; for a new world is at stake!

Špela Šafarič: UTOPIA OR DYSTOPIA?

After every crisis comes recovery, and a new reality is created. Utopia or dystopia. Mechanisation as a help to humankind or as control and a weapon. Onward with humanity or back to greed. What new reality will we create?

I had a visitor. It was me, from another time. The contents of my thoughts, of my knowledge, our shared notions of what is and what is not — I find them truly hard to trust. Let (e)motion speak.

Kaja Marion Ribnikar: AND WHAT IF EVERYTHING STOPS?

Whether we have a pandemic, a third world war breaks out, you are left without a partner, you can no longer dance. We destroy the world, nature destroys us — whatever happens, the world keeps turning. And what if it stops? Does everything stop? Forever?

Saša Šveigl: MASKS

Having no contact with others. A sense of powerlessness, of loneliness, of not being heard and being left alone with yourself and your thoughts. And the question: what will become of us in the future? Will everything return to the old ways, or will everything be different? Will we be forced to wear masks for the rest of our lives?

Nataša Đurić: WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Does reality create us, or are we in fact the ones creating it? Does the fact that it is not visible to the naked eye mean it does not exist? We can stop and feel it. What do you hear?

Ajda Fabjan: TOGETHER!

For a moment the world stopped and revealed our honest needs. When I look at it, I see it and take it differently. With the changing of the material principles of human existence, a new reality has come about, one holding much that is unknown. We are discovering it at once and together!

Vanessa Perne: THE SLIPPING OF THE PRESENT

If we want to separate past, present and future, nothing remains. The past is no more, the future is not yet, and the present slips away faster than tears slip down cheeks. We speak of it, and it is already the past; and out of the future a new present is born.

Larisa Počič: THE MOMENT THAT DOES NOT RETURN

The new reality is a time in which I cast off the illusory layers of everything I no longer am or never was. I wonder how much simpler life would be if I truly lived it in full awareness that I will never be able to experience any single moment again.
