Undergraduate studies – Dance, Choreography

Urban / Hip Hop

About the programme

The Urban Dance Studies programme offers a comprehensive education that integrates dance technique, creative practice, cultural and historical context, and the development of an individual artistic voice. Students engage in an in-depth exploration of a range of urban dance practices, including hip hop, popping, locking, house, vogue and dancehall, alongside commercial dance. Through practical movement research, the programme also examines the history and evolution of urban dance cultures, providing students with a deeper understanding of their origins, values and contemporary forms.

The programme creates a dialogue between freestyle and choreography, as well as underground and commercial dance scenes, with a strong emphasis on artistic exploration and the development of an individual dance identity. Students learn to develop their own work independently – from an initial concept and movement research to the creation of a choreography, a performance piece or a full-scale stage production.

The educational process is grounded in an individual and mentorship-based approach. Lecturers guide students in developing their technical, creative and artistic potential, while supporting them in identifying their own interests and shaping an independent path within the diverse field of urban dance practices.
