At Alma Mater Europaea University we are following with concern the procedures for drafting the Development Strategy for Contemporary Dance 2024\u20132028<\/strong> and for establishing a new public institute in the field of dance, in which the academic profession has not been properly involved<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As set out in a recently published article on the Preiskovalno.si<\/em><\/a> portal, Alma Mater Europaea \u2013 Dance Academy<\/strong>, the only accredited higher education institution in Slovenia running comprehensive Bologna-level study programmes in the art of dance, was excluded from the professional discussions and from the preparation of strategic documents that significantly shape the future development of the dance field in Slovenia.<\/p>\n

The Dean of the Dance Academy, Prof. Dr Svebor Se\u010dak<\/strong>, warns that such an approach does not reflect the principles of professionalism and cooperation that should underpin cultural and educational policy. For many years the Dance Academy has been systematically developing higher education in contemporary dance, ballet, jazz and urban dance techniques, as well as a master\u2019s programme in dance arts that brings together artistic practice, teaching and research.<\/p>\n

At Alma Mater University we believe that the sustainable development of dance as an art is not possible without close cooperation with academic institutions<\/strong>, which provide the professional foundation, pedagogical continuity and internationally comparable standards of education. Excluding the higher education profession from strategic processes risks a fragmented, short-term development of the field, without a clearly conceived educational vertical.<\/p>\n

Alma Mater Europaea University therefore stresses the importance of open dialogue, the involvement of the professional public and respect for existing educational institutions<\/strong> in the shaping of cultural policies. Only through the cooperation of all key stakeholders can a high-quality, professionally grounded and sustainable development of dance as an art be secured in Slovenia.<\/p>\n
